Today’s podcast overview/transcript:
Good
afternoon and welcome to another episode of Investorideas.com
"Potcast" featuring cannabis news, stocks to watch as well as
insights from thought leaders and experts.
In
today’s podcast Investorideas interviews Douglas K. Gordon, CEO of Silo Wellness Inc. (CSE:
SILO) (OTCQB:SILFF), a
leading global psychedelics company, where we discussed the company’s recent
partnership with the Bob Marley Group Of Companies, navigating the functional
and psychedelic mushroom landscape as well as the company’s psychedelic
retreats in Oregon and Jamaica.
Founded
in 2018, Silo Wellness is a ‘spore-to-door’ vertically integrated company and
the leading psilocybin cultivator and facilitator of psychedelic retreats in
Jamaica, a jurisdiction where the cultivation, extraction, and consumption of
psilocybin mushrooms is permissible. In 2019, the Company announced proof of
concept of a patent-pending psilocybin nasal spray. In addition to its market-leading
mushroom and psilocybin products, Silo Wellness conducts ketamine-assisted
retreats in Oregon and recently expanded its psychedelic offerings to introduce
5-MeO-DMT-enhanced retreats across Jamaica.
The
company recently
announced the launch of
Marley One, the first global functional and psychedelic mushroom consumer
brand, in collaboration with the family of legendary musician Bob Marley. The initial
product offering will include a range of functional mushroom tinctures with
unique blends highlighting the brand’s connection to Jamaica, including species
such as cordyceps, lion's mane, chaga, reishi and turkey tail that offer a
range of unique health and wellness benefits, from immunity and gut health to
cognitive function and sleep enhancement. The Company intends to launch a
psychedelic mushroom product line under the Marley name later this year, to be
followed by additional functional mushroom products including gummies, capsules
and cosmetics.
When asked about this partnership
and its importance to the company, Douglas Gordon commented, “Bob Marley has
represented the idea of us all being one, in the spirit of what he sang about,
what he espoused and what he spoke to. In many ways it's been about people, we
are all one people and I think what
we’ve learned through understanding plant medicine better, and mushrooms
specifically, is that we are really one Earth and the Earth can’t heal itself. Why
I say all this is in relation to the Bob Marley relationship is because having
any association with a figure like that, and a whole mantra and way of being
that Bob Marley represents, for us is such a connected part of who we are as an
organization. We believe very strongly, not just in the tremendous benefits
that psychedelics can offer us in terms of the future of understanding mental
health, but it also allows us to do something very germaine to who we are. We
operate in Jamaica and we respect the indigenous cultures that for many
hundreds of years have spoken to the use of psychedelics, and so it’s a
wonderful place to be where we can marry modern medicine today with these long
standing traditions. For us to be able to speak to the rastafarian culture and
incorporate that into what we are doing is something we are very proud of and
is also very resonant.”
The Marley One product line
currently includes:
●
One Mind: A coffee-flavored blend of lion’s
mane and L-theanine designed to improve focus and cognitive function.
●
One Flow: A peppermint-flavored blend of
cordyceps and ginseng designed to enhance physical endurance and mental
function.
●
One Harmony: A mango-flavored blend of
chaga and ginger designed to stimulate gut health and improve digestion.
●
One Body: A berry-flavored blend of turkey
tail and astragalus designed to support immune health.
●
One Rest: A vanilla-flavored blend of
reishi and GABA designed to help reduce tension and stress and improve quality
of sleep.
Gordon
continued, saying “From the business perspective it allows us to educate people
about functional mushrooms in the first instance. It allows us to go to folks
who are familiar and trust the Bob Marley brand and make them more comfortable
to understand and be curious about what this can do for me? In the process what
we believe will happen is not only will more people come to understand the
power and health benefits of functional mushrooms , but they will also open up
their minds and be more curious and willing to learn about psychedelics. That’s
where we think the greatest power is. Functional mushrooms are fantastic from a
health and wellness “superfood” type of perspective and so we are happy to be
in that space, but we are also happy, having seen how CBD and Cannabis evolved
previously, that this gives us a pathway to having more people open their minds
to mushrooms and psychedelics in general, and that’s where the real healing
begins.”
Cedella
Marley, CEO of Bob Marley Group of Companies, commented in the company’s recent
press release, saying “As a family, we seek to use our platform to inspire
positive change, and the launch of the Marley One mushroom brand, in
collaboration with a pioneering company like Silo Wellness, allows us to do
just that by marrying ancient wisdom with modern science. It’s our wish that
these products will empower people to experience oneness with nature and the
universe at large - and ultimately, achieve greater self-actualization.”
Gordon
went on to discuss the company’s psychedelic retreats in both Jamaica and
Oregon saying, “We are in the early stage at this part of the business as we
started our retreats in January in both Jamaica and Oregon. What we brought
into our retreats is very much what the foundation of it is, and we built it
around the basis of being very respectful to the history of the mushroom and
the history of the experience. We want to make indigenous cultures a very core
part of what we offer. The ways to have a proper psychedelic retreat and
experience start with set, setting and integration. We put a lot of emphasis on
getting the set, setting and integration right, but it's so important that you
get folks attached to it that understand that the powerful tool here is the
medicine, not the driver of the bus, not the shaman or retreat leader. We spent
a lot of time ensuring that the people we have attached to what we are doing,
that that’s their philosophy. It’s really about being guides for the medicine
and telling people and telling folks that it's you healing yourself and it's
your mind reinterpreting these traumas for yourself. It’s also important for us
that we give people memorable experiences. We take you out into nature, we have
yoga, we have sound healing and we keep looking to see which particular
elements work well together. We keep getting the question from the investment
community asking, how is this scalable? The truth is you have numbers at which
point the experience between the individuals starts to break down. So how we do
it is we limit the number, we limit it to 10-15 people max, and we also do
individual and curated and themed retreats.”
Douglas
K. Gordon went on to discuss some of the different themed retreats they are
currently working with as well as the future potential of these retreats, not
just in medicinal uses, but also in the world of business, science and creative
thinking.
Gordon
also discussed the company’s data research partnership with Ehave, Inc. (OTC:
EHVVF), the different demographics of some of their early
retreats, the potential for psychedelics in the future as well as the many
business opportunities within the functional mushrooms segment and how this
leads into psychedelics.
